‘Learning
is an obligation for all Muslims, as the Prophet (peace be upon him)
said, which includes men and
women both and both equally; “The
learning that is obligatory is so because
knowledge is a means to know God and His creation, which is a condition
of good
worship”. So
learning must be in the right cultural context, meaning that
students are not distracted from that purpose. That is why, given the
conditions in this country, it is necessary for Muslims to provide
special
facilities for girls once they have reached secondary school age. I
fully
support the efforts of WLSIS to establish a secondary school for girls
in West London.’ Shaykh
